I wrote my first haiku!

Go me, right?!

So, remember how I said that I started taking a poetry class? Well, it’s been going really well so far, and (get this) I recently got the chance to learn about the topic of Japanese haiku!

Anyway, though… I didn’t really know much about haiku, other than it just existed, until now. So, I can now tell you that traditional haiku is written in three lines, 17 syllables, first line 5 syllables, second line 7, last line also 5, and that it is meant to express physical objects in nature. Everything else about it, though, I forget, so… sorry if I don’t impress you much.

But, if you can already guess, I thought I’d try my hand at writing one just for fun… and this is how it turned out!

In the snowy night
out of darkness I will find
moonlight trapped in time.

Ta-da.

I’ll be publishing this (very) little poem in my collection, Holding onto Stars, on Wattpad tomorrow. And, yes, I stuck to the traditional standing of syllables, but you can count ’em if you don’t believe me.

Until my next haiku, though…
